Longevity Research

At Zest, we’re redefining the detection of cognitive decline.
In partnership with the University of Cambridge, we have launched PREMAZ: a digital cognitive assessment  measureing Memory Precision, one of the earliest and most sensitive markers of brain aging. It picks up what standard tests miss, giving our users a powerful head start in protecting long-term brain health.

We also collate and share the latest longevity breakthroughs from world-leading scientists. We are proud to showcase the research that underpins the Zest ecosystem.

PREMAZ
1
Pilot
In partnership with Cambridge, Zest is delivering the Precision Memory Test through its app to a pilot group of 100 participants. This study is exploring usability and ease of access to our new app based DCA to ensure the test is accessible and repeatable in diverse populations .

PREMAZ
2
Validation
To enable wider adoption, Zest is scaling the test to 3,000 participants via its mobile app. This phase aims to validate the PREMAZ test on a mobile device for clinical adoption. This data will be used in the 7th peer reviewed publication on the PREMAZ test, confirming it's validity and accuracy for detecting cognitive decline earlier than current gold standard cognitive tests.

Summary:
This UK Biobank study found that higher HbA1c levels causally accelerate brain aging, especially in men aged 60–73. For every 6.75 mmol/mol increase in HbA1c, brain age increased by nearly half a year, highlighting the link between poor glucose control and greater risk of age-related cognitive decline.

Summary:
This review explores how dietary supplements and natural products can counteract accelerated biological aging by targeting key hallmarks like telomere shortening, mitochondrial dysfunction, and stem cell exhaustion. By influencing nutrient-sensing pathways, these interventions show promise in both clinical and preclinical studies for reversing physiological decline and reducing the burden of age-related diseases. While current evidence strongly supports their role in increasing healthspan—the quality of life in later years—more robust clinical trials are needed to determine their full impact on human lifespan.

Summary:
This study shows that exposure to cold temperatures activates a specific proteasome pathway—via PA28γ/PSME3—that enhances protein degradation and reduces harmful protein aggregation linked to age-related neurodegenerative diseases. In both C. elegans and human cells, cold exposure improved protein clearance and reduced signs of diseases like ALS and Huntington’s. These findings suggest that moderate cold may support healthy aging and offer a promising strategy for preventing multiple neurodegenerative conditions.

Summary:
This review highlights magnesium as a critical micronutrient linked to nearly all biological hallmarks of aging, from genomic stability to inflammation and mitochondrial function. Magnesium deficiency, common in older adults, contributes to “inflammaging”—the low-grade chronic inflammation that accelerates age-related disease. Maintaining optimal magnesium levels across the lifespan is presented as a safe, affordable strategy to promote healthy aging and extend healthspan, though further clinical research is encouraged to confirm its full impact.

Summary:
This review underscores the growing global challenge of aging-related diseases and highlights the potential of natural products and dietary supplements as powerful tools for promoting longevity. Compounds such as polyphenols, saponins, alkaloids, and polysaccharides—found in everyday foods—have shown the ability to modulate key aging-related cellular pathways (like sirtuins, AMPK, mTOR, and IGF-1). By influencing these nutrient-sensing systems, these natural agents offer multi-targeted protection against aging and chronic diseases, supporting their role as scientifically grounded, accessible anti-aging interventions.

Summary:
Recent research confirms a J-shaped link between alcohol consumption and health, where light to moderate drinking appears protective, but heavy drinking increases health risks. However, methodological flaws like misclassification, reverse causation, and socioeconomic confounding challenge the validity of this association. Newer genetic studies and global health authorities now emphasize that no level of alcohol is truly safe, advocating instead for healthier lifestyle choices such as increased physical activity.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your kit includes everything you need to collect a small blood sample at home, safely and easily. Inside you’ll find a lancet, collection cards, alcohol swabs, bandages, and a pre-paid return envelope. No lab visits, no hassle.

Once your blood sample is returned, we analyze key biomarkers linked to aging and combine them with data from your wearable devices and in-app functional performance tests. Our machine learning algorithm calculates your Functional Age a snapshot of how old your body really is compared to your chronological age. We also provide a peronsalized protocol for you to improve your scores.

Zest blood tests anlayze clinically relevant blood biomarkers including:

Inflammation: CRP
Metabolic health: HbA1c, fasting glucose, triglycerides
Cardiovascular risk: LDL, HDL, ApoB
Liver & protein status: Albumin
Hormones (for men & women): Testosterone, Oestradiol, SHBG, DHEAS

We recommend retesting every 3 to track your progress, assess what’s working, and update your personalized protocol. Functional age is dynamic, and improvements are often visible within just a few months of following your plan.

All of your results, scores, and recommendations are delivered in the Zest app. You’ll get a breakdown of your Functional Age, biomarker analysis, and a tailored plan covering supplements, training, recovery, nutrition, and sleep.

Zest offers targeted longevity supplements designed to support the areas that impact your biological age the most, such as cellular energy, inflammation, brain health, and hormone balance. Your personalized protocol will recommend the right supplements based on your test results.
