Longevity Research

At Zest, we’re redefining the detection of cognitive decline.
In partnership with the University of Cambridge, we have launched PREMAZ: a digital cognitive assessment  measureing Memory Precision, one of the earliest and most sensitive markers of brain aging. It picks up what standard tests miss, giving our users a powerful head start in protecting long-term brain health.

We also collate and share the latest longevity breakthroughs from world-leading scientists. We are proud to showcase the research that underpins the Zest ecosystem.

1
Pilot
In partnership with Cambridge, Zest is delivering the Precision Memory Test through its app to a pilot group of 100 participants. This study is exploring usability and ease of access to our new app based DCA to ensure the test is accessible and repeatable in diverse populations .

PREMAZ
2
Validation
To enable wider adoption, Zest is scaling the test to 3,000 participants via its mobile app. This phase aims to validate the PREMAZ test on a mobile device for clinical adoption. This data will be used in the 7th peer reviewed publication on the PREMAZ test, confirming it's validity and accuracy for detecting cognitive decline earlier than current gold standard cognitive tests.

Summary:
This study found that both too little and too much sleep are linked to poorer cognitive function and mental health in older adults, with around 7 hours being the optimal sleep duration. Brain regions like the hippocampus and prefrontal areas were key to these associations. Genetic factors and changes in brain structure may explain how sleep impacts cognition and mental health, highlighting the complex, nonlinear relationship between sleep duration and brain health.

Summary:
A meta-analysis of over 1.2 million people found that higher resting heart rate significantly increases the risk of all-cause and cardiovascular death. Every 10 bpm increase raised mortality risk by up to 9%. Resting heart rate is a strong, independent predictor of longevity.

Summary:
This meta-analysis found that lower heart rate variability (HRV) is significantly associated with a higher risk of all-cause death and cardiovascular events in patients with cardiovascular disease. The risk was especially notable in those with acute myocardial infarction or acute coronary syndrome. Both time and frequency measures of HRV were predictive, reinforcing HRV as a valuable, non-invasive marker for long-term cardiovascular risk.

Summary:
This study found that higher cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) in midlife is linked to a lower risk of developing lung and colorectal cancer, though not prostate cancer. Among men diagnosed with cancer later in life, those with high midlife CRF had significantly lower cancer-related and cardiovascular mortality. These results highlight CRF as a powerful, modifiable predictor of long-term cancer outcomes and survivability.

Summary:
This meta-analysis found that higher cardiorespiratory fitness significantly reduces stroke risk. Individuals with high fitness levels had a 42% lower risk of stroke compared to those with low fitness. The protective effect was seen for both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, and each 5 MET increase in fitness lowered stroke risk by 15%. These findings highlight the strong link between fitness and stroke prevention.

Summary:
This large cohort study of over 122,000 patients found that higher cardiorespiratory fitness is strongly linked to lower long-term mortality. The greatest survival benefit was seen in those with elite fitness levels, with no upper limit to the positive effect. Even among older adults and those with hypertension, extreme fitness provided significant mortality reduction. Cardiorespiratory fitness outperformed traditional risk factors like smoking or diabetes as a predictor of death, reinforcing that improving fitness is a powerful, modifiable way to extend lifespan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your kit includes everything you need to collect a small blood sample at home, safely and easily. Inside you’ll find a lancet, collection cards, alcohol swabs, bandages, and a pre-paid return envelope. No lab visits, no hassle.

Once your blood sample is returned, we analyze key biomarkers linked to aging and combine them with data from your wearable devices and in-app functional performance tests. Our machine learning algorithm calculates your Functional Age a snapshot of how old your body really is compared to your chronological age. We also provide a peronsalized protocol for you to improve your scores.

Zest blood tests anlayze clinically relevant blood biomarkers including:

Inflammation: CRP
Metabolic health: HbA1c, fasting glucose, triglycerides
Cardiovascular risk: LDL, HDL, ApoB
Liver & protein status: Albumin
Hormones (for men & women): Testosterone, Oestradiol, SHBG, DHEAS

We recommend retesting every 3 to track your progress, assess what’s working, and update your personalized protocol. Functional age is dynamic, and improvements are often visible within just a few months of following your plan.

All of your results, scores, and recommendations are delivered in the Zest app. You’ll get a breakdown of your Functional Age, biomarker analysis, and a tailored plan covering supplements, training, recovery, nutrition, and sleep.

Zest offers targeted longevity supplements designed to support the areas that impact your biological age the most, such as cellular energy, inflammation, brain health, and hormone balance. Your personalized protocol will recommend the right supplements based on your test results.
